Description:
Rare 1723 Hibernia Prototype Farthing
1723 FARTH Hibernia Farthing, D:G:REX MS64 Brown PCGS. Nelson 6, Breen-169, High R.5. This is Breen's "First Prototype Farthing" that he described as very rare, mentioning the 1978 discovery of a tiny hoard in England. He suspected that the hoard consisted of less than 30 pieces. The reverse has a die crack through NIA and the first digit of the date, as usually seen. This example is highly appealing with mahogany surfaces and hints of original mint color. Aside from a few tiny contact marks, the surfaces are exceptional. Listed on page 42 of the 2007 Guide Book. (PCGS# 173)
