Important 1740-D Half Sou Marque1740-D 1/2 SOU M French Colonies Half Sou Marque VF Details, Corroded, NCS. Breen-668, Vlack-300, common (Vlack R.1). Breen described this issue as "Very Rare." We reiterate that the Vlack rarity scale is not the normal scale that Sheldon developed. In fact, for Rarity-1, Vlack noted: "Even though an R1 infers that a coin is supposedly common, perhaps that number would only amount to maybe 20 or so." In such a case, his R.1 would equate to Sheldon's R.6! The obverse is a few degrees off center toward 12 o'clock, but all legends are intact. A lavender-gray example with consistent moderate field roughness. The Half Sou Marque is a scarcer denomination than the Sou Marque. Listed on page 51 of the 2006 Guide Book.
