Description

1776 Continental Dollar, Poor 1
Newman 2-C, CURRENCY Spelling
Spirited Bidding Anticipated

1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURRENCY, Pewter Poor 1 PCGS. Newman 2-C, Hodder 2-A.3, W-8455, R.4. We anticipate that this piece, assigned the lowest possible PCGS grade, will receive considerable bidding activity. What collector wouldn't want a Continental dollar? Although little detail remains, enough is visible for positive identification and authentication. The surfaces are deeply toned in dark gray with a few tiny pewter-gray spots on the reverse, and both sides are surprisingly free of problems.
There are many collectors forming type sets of coins with the lowest possible grade. This exact coin is the only Continental dollar of any variety that has a certified grade of less than Good 4 at PCGS and NGC, and it is the only opportunity for those collectors. This piece may potentially set a price record for a low-grade Continental dollar. Listed on page 81 of the 2012 Guide Book. (NGC ID# 2AYT, PCGS# 794)

The way you grouped lots, photographed, and presented the material was too notch. I was impressed that you took the time to attribute coins to the Krause reference as their "plate coin" and that many of your descriptions included pertinent facts and infor
