Description:
Fully Lustrous Near-Gem Brown 1787 Fugio
UNITED STATES, Cinquefoils, Newman-11B
Likely From Bank of New York Hoard
1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, Cinquefoils MS64 Brown NGC. Newman-11B, W-6785, R.4. This is a lovely, glossy medium-brown near-Gem example of this coin, likely a hoard specimen from the Bank of New York, a treasure trove uncovered in 1948. The prominent die clash marks in the right obverse field are from the chain links on the reverse, but considerable clashing appears on the reverse as well. Struck a bit off-center toward 10:30 on the obverse. Loads of luster emanate from the surfaces, and there is not a hint of rub or friction. A super coin. Listed on page 83 of the 2011 Guide Book. MRB MS62.
Purchased from M.L. Kaplan (8/1958).
