Description

Very Rare 1787 Bust Left
Ryder-15 Vermont Copper

1787 COPPER Vermont Copper, Bust Left Genuine PCGS. RR-15, Bressett 9-I, W-2060, R.6. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a Fine specimen is damaged and corroded. Among the rarest Guide Book types of Vermont Republic coppers, the 1787 Bust Left is represented by a single die pair. The reverse failed early, with a large cud affecting the date and causing a soft impression on the upper left obverse. The present darkly toned example is moderately wavy and has a large granular area at the centers of both sides. The legends are bold. A different example graded AG3 by PCGS recently sold for $8,962.50 as lot 1152 of the June 2012 Stack's-Bowers auction.
Listed on page 72 of the 2013 Guide Book.
