Baker-16, W-10630 1791 Washington Cent
Small Eagle Reverse, MS66 Brown
1791 1C Washington Small Eagle Cent MS66 Brown PCGS. CAC. Baker-16, W-10630, R.3. This splendid chocolate-brown Premium Gem retains glimpses of mint red within recessed areas such as the lettering and Washington's eye socket. Impressively preserved with minimal carbon. It appears that this sharply struck piece was set aside by the Westwood Mint instead of released into English circulation. Listed on page 81 of the 2012 Guide Book. Population: 4 in 66 Brown, 0 finer (5/12).
Ex: Benson Collection, Part II (Ira & Larry Goldberg, 2/2002), lot 25, which realized $8,050; The Liberty Collection of American Colonial Coinage, Part Three (Heritage, 5/2008), lot 2043, which realized $12,650. (PCGS# 705)
