Description:
Reeded Edge Copper 1796 Castorland Medal
Original Dies, W-9140, MS64 Brown
1796 MEDAL Castorland Medal, Copper, Reeded Edge MS64 Brown PCGS. W-9140, R.6. Struck from both original dies, identified by a touching TO in CASTORLAND and a repunched first A in MAGNA. The break at the S in PARENS and die rust at the vessel handle confirm status as a restrike. Lightly strike doubled at the margins, but the motifs are fully impressed. The chocolate-brown surfaces are satiny and exemplary. The Whitman entry does not distinguish between plain and reeded edges and it is undetermined which is rarer. Listed on page 77 of the 2013 Guide Book.
