1796 TOKEN COPPER CO, BN
Copper Company of Upper Canada/Myddelton Muling--Extremely Rare1796 Myddelton Token/Copper Company of Upper Canada PR63 Brown PCGS.Breen-1076. As with the silver token above, this piece was made by Boulton & Watt's Soho Mint in Birmingham, England. Despite the 1796 date, this mule is believed to have been struck a few years later, 1802 or 1803.
This is a high grade piece that displays rich, glossy, reddish-brown patina over both sides. Carbon-free surfaces and very pleasing overall. Breen states that this muling is extremely rare. The only other recent auction appearance we are aware of is a PR64 piece in Superior's ANA 2000 National Money Show Sale, lot 39. Listed on page 56 of the 2001 Guide Book.
