Description:
NGC 1915-S Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS 66. Few U.S. coins can compare in beauty to the Panama-Pacific quarter eagle. The allegorical figures of Minerva riding a hippocampus are unrivaled in classical symbolism in the coinage of this country. The reverse featuring the defiant eagle is taken from a pattern from the 1870s. Both are striking features that give this coin more of a look of a medal than a regular production coin. Rare in high grade, this piece is virtually flawless. The surfaces are smooth and virtually unblemished with soft, frosted mint luster. Medium orange-gold color. (NGC ID# 26HK, PCGS# 7450)
