Description

1915-S Panama-Pacific Two and a Half
A Scarce Superb Gem

1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS67 NGC. After Evelyn Longman took ill and could not complete her commission for the Panama-Pacific quarter eagle, it fell to Chief Engraver Charles Barber and long-serving assistant George T. Morgan to render the dies. Artistic opinions of their collaboration are mixed, but there is little dispute that the coins struck from those dies are scarce as Superb Gems and effectively impossible to find any finer, with none in the combined certified population (11/11). This carefully preserved example is broadly lustrous with a hint of orange at the margins of otherwise yellow-gold surfaces and a small copper dot over the P of EXPOSITION.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# BYLP, PCGS# 7450)
