Description

1926 Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle, MS66
Tied for Finest at PCGS

1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial MS66 PCGS. As the U.S. prepared to celebrate the sesquicentennial of its independence in 1926, the Philadelphia Mint coined commemorative half dollars and quarter eagles for the anticipated celebration. The obverse features a standing, draped representation of Liberty, while the reverse depicts Independence Hall. Mint engraver John R. Sinnock designed these coins, intended to raise funds for the planned international fair. Sales were not brisk.

This Premium Gem is tied for the finest that PCGS has certified, one of 153 submissions assigned the MS66 grade (3/13). Both sides have frosty yellow luster with exceptional eye appeal. The strike is bold, and the presentation is enhanced by wisps of green and rose. A splash of orange toning appears in the doorway of Independence Hall, welcoming the next collector to own this piece.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26HL, PCGS# 7466)
