Description

Low-Mintage 1922 Grant With Star Half
Moderately Toned MS66

1922 50C Grant With Star MS66 PCGS. CAC. The beneficiaries of the Grant half dollar and gold dollar commemoratives were hoping to sell three coins to each collector when they requested that a few thousand of the gold dollars be struck with a distinguishing mark (the star above the word GRANT). A few thousand half dollars were delivered with the star as well, an unexpected windfall. This Premium Gem example of the With Star type has broad luster with a touch of flash to it under silver-gray, gold-orange, and ruby patina. As often seen, Grant's upper hair is softly defined, but this is hardly a demerit when one considers the great quality of the surfaces. Population: 31 in 66, 4 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28KC, PCGS# 9307)
