Sparkling, Lustrous MS64 Confederate Restrike Half Dollar1861 50C Scott Restrike MS64 PCGS. While not rare in the absolute sense, CSA restrikes are definitely a condition rarity. Struck in 1879 from a genuine Confederate half reverse die, most of the examples seen today are AU or lower grade Uncirculated pieces. The planed off reverse of this piece was struck and the coin was preserved as a memento ever since, and has survived in virtually the same condition as it was in when produced 124 years ago. The fields are bright and sparkle with semi-prooflikeness, and the details are well defined except on the peripheral letters CON(FEDERATE STATES). The obverse shows the usual flat strike and is lightly toned. An important reminder of "The Lost Cause."
