Description:
Famous Scott Restrike 1861 Half
'Confederate Reverse,' MS62
1861 50C Scott Restrike MS62 PCGS. CAC. Breen-8002. In 1879, shortly after the end of Reconstruction, numismatist J.W. Scott obtained the Confederate States of America reverse die from the chief coiner of the Confederacy and created "Confederate halves" of his own, planing off the reverses of 1861-dated federal half dollars and imprinting them with the Confederate cap-and-shield to simulate the four extremely rare "true" Confederate half dollars. This lightly gold-toned example has the characteristic flattened obverse (from the "Confederate" striking) and sharp reverse of the Scott restrikes, which numbered just 500 pieces and are eminently collectible in their own right. A small crimson patch appears at the bottom left margin on the Confederate side. Listed on page 395 of the 2012 Guide Book. (PCGS# 340402)

Learn About Consigning With Us
What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
