1861 50C Scott Restrike XF45 ANACS. Breen-8002....
Always-Popular 1861 Scott Restrike Half, XF451861 50C Scott Restrike XF45 ANACS. Breen-8002. After J.W. Scott acquired the dies for the Confederate half from Ebenezer Mason, he then purchased 500 1861-O half dollars, planed off the reverses, and used the CSA die to create these restrikes that simulate an original Confederate half. All restrikes show softness of details on the obverse, a result of the restriking process that partially reduced the definition on that side. Of course, the important side is the reverse on these pieces. The reverse is crisp on this piece, but the obverse shows a notable lack of detail from the restriking. Each side is mostly untoned with notable toning seen around the margin of the obverse. A scratch at 10 o'clock on the obverse is the only mark worthy of mention. (PCGS# 340402)
