1802 10C AU53 PCGS. JR-4, R.4....
Still-Lustrous JR-4 1802 Dime, AU531802 10C AU53 PCGS. JR-4, R.4. While the 1802 half dime gets far more attention, in-the-know collectors recognize how challenging the 1802 dime can be, as the variety represented here, the JR-4 with star 8 not tucked under the Y in LIBERTY, is rated R.4 (or "very scarce") yet is still the most common out of four varieties for the date. This AU53 example displays a mix of silver, gold-gray, orange, plum, and blue hues, the deepest colors appearing along the borders. Though considerable striking weakness is noted in the centers, the broad luster remaining in the fields confirms that actual wear is at a minimum. A gorgeous piece. Population: 2 in 53, 11 finer (11/12).(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 236K, PCGS# 4472)
