Description

Premium Gem 1805 4 Berries Dime, JR-2
Only Two Finer at NGC

1805 10C 4 Berries MS66 NGC. JR-2, R.2. The 1805 4 Berries is an available die pairing, given how early it is in the Capped Bust dime series, and fortunately it is one that can be found in Mint State grades with some regularity for collectors willing to pay the price. Its listing in the Guide Book gives it a further boost. The 4 Berries and 5 Berries reverses share a common obverse.
Although most of our Signature auctions, it seems, feature one or a handful of 4 Berries dimes, the MS66 grade level is in the upper reaches of our offerings, whether from PCGS or NGC. The Pittman coin was an MS67 PCGS example, the Bob Simpson Collection also contains one in that grade, and there are two other MS67 PCGS pieces, according to PCGS' CoinFacts site and population data. NGC has seen seven submissions at the MS66 level including the current piece, with two finer in MS67 (11/11). Rich, frosted mint luster abounds on both sides of the present Premium Gem, whose centers are silver-gray centers, bounded by a ring of deep blue around the margins. The strike is a trifle softly defined in the centers, but there are no distracting marks.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 236S, PCGS# 4477)
