Description

1795 Flowing Hair Dollar, VF20
Three Leaves Beneath Wing, B-5, BB-27

1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves VF20 NGC. B-5, BB-27, R.1. Bowers-Borckardt Die State II. The most plentiful variety of the 1795 Flowing Hair series, this die pair is easily identifiable by the "bar" in the left obverse field between star 5 and the uppermost hair curl. David Bowers estimates as many as 100,000 pieces of the total 160,295-piece mintage were struck with the BB-27 dies. Pleasing, old-silver gray fields surround lighter silver-gray devices of this smoothly worn dollar. All of the elements are well-detailed for the VF20 designation. A small mark near star 6 and some barely noticeable slide marks on Liberty's neck are seen on the obverse; on the reverse, two small reverse rim bumps are the only mentionable marks.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24WZ, PCGS# 6852)
