Distinctive 1799 B-13 Irregular Date Dollar, VF30

1799 $1 Irregular Date, 13 Stars VF30 PCGS. B-13, BB-151, R.5. Die State II. One of the "Irregular Date" dollars with the reverse showing a cluster of die rust above and within the E in STATES and additional die rust at the rightmost stars, near the wing. This aptly named obverse has a distinctive date position unlike any other in the series. The 1 nearly touches the curl, 17 lean to the right, the first 9 leans left, and the second 9 is upright and distant from the bust. This obverse die was used with three different reverse dies, each also distinctive. The B-13 variety has 13 reverse stars in an arc pattern, B-15 has 13 reverse stars in a line pattern, and B-4 has 15 reverse stars. Intermingled medium gray and deeper steel color with traces of faded gold toning. A few faint scratches are visible on each side, most evident within the horizontal shield lines
