Colonel Green's 1799/8 B-1 Silver Dollar, MS621799/8 $1 13 Stars Reverse MS62 NGC. B-1, BB-142, R.4. This is a late die state, and may qualify as the terminal die state for the variety. It is also a remarkable Mint State piece and easily within the Condition Census for this variety. The obverse has a number of die flaws near the date and LIBERTY, and elsewhere. A feature that is readily apparent on this example is severe obverse die buckling through the stars at the right border, and the drapery. This die buckling is the cause of central design weakness. The reverse die is shattered with several cracks through STATES OF, and heavy die flaws at the first T of STATES and the I of AMERICA. Both sides of this lovely dollar are naturally toned in gray-gold, pale blue, and steel color with few blemishes of any significance. An accompanying coin box identifies this piece as the Col. Green specimen.
