Description

Lustrous MS63 1799/8 Dollar, Tied For Finest Known

1799/8 $1 13 Stars Reverse MS63 NGC. B-1, BB-142. This incredible coin is tied for the finest known of the variety with the MS63 coin in the Eliasberg Collection. The revised Condition Census for this issue is (63, 62, 61, 60, 60, 55). Like the Eliasberg coin, this piece shows fully defined peripheral stars on the obverse. The centers, however, have just a bit of weakness on each side. The surfaces are satiny and generally free from any distracting marks. The obverse is untoned except for a bit of golden color beneath the date, while the reverse is toned around the margins in rich shadings of russet and blue, otherwise brilliant. A rare opportunity for the early dollar specialist, it has been seven years since an MS63 has been offered of this variety at public auction. (#6884) (Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 24X7, PCGS# 6884)
