Description

Elusive 1799/8 B-2 Dollar, 13 Reverse Stars

1799/8 $1 13 Stars Reverse VF25 PCGS. B-2, BB-143, High R.4. Die State II. Overdate; 13 reverse stars, leaf point below left side of I. This variety is the scarcest of the 1799/8 overdates, with only about 100 examples known, although Dave Bowers estimated the population to be 250 to 450 coins. The overdate feature means that additional demand exists, thus the B-2 variety is very difficult to locate. This example is a later die state with reverse cracks through ATES OF AME. Medium gray surfaces with traces of champagne toning on each side. A few light abrasions are noted on each side, but the overall appearance is exceptional for the grade.
Ex: I. Kleinman (4/2001).

Learn about consigning with us

What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
