Reiver Plate Coin for the Popular 1800 AMERICAI B-19, BB-192 Variety1800 $1 AMERICAI. B-19, BB-192, R.2. Fine 12 NGC. Star 1 closer to hair than star 7 to L; AMERICAI. Reiver die state a. Bowers-Borckardt die state III. This is the Reiver plate coin for the obverse of this variety. This coin was struck fairly early in this die pairings life, although all reported examples of this obverse show die clashing, mostly on the lower right portion of the obverse. Identifiable by a short die line or lump below the first star, and on the reverse by the familiar die scratch that appears to be an I after AMERICA, the most logical explanation for this is a major slip by the engraver as this does not appear to be a misplaced letter. Toned a light silvery gray with slight mottling on the obverse, and we note a scratch in the left obverse field from the third star nearly to Liberty's hair. Weakly struck on the area above the arrows and on the shield, and similarly weak on the upper portion of Liberty's hair. A relatively plentiful die marriage, but always in demand for the AMERICAI reverse.
