Lustrous Almost Uncirculated 1800 B-10 Dollar1800 $1 AU58 PCGS. B-10, BB-190. R.2. Intermediate Die State VI-VII. This lustrous example of the so-called "Very Wide Date" variety is very close to Mint State and is struck from a late die state of the B-10, BB-190 die marriage. The surfaces show almost complete remaining luster and light to medium silver and gold toning is seen over each side. The most obvious identifying marks for pedigree purposes are a couple of short grease stains that were struck into the right obverse field.
Although not mentioned in the die state analysis in the Bowers book, at some point the obverse die clashed with the reverse die. This piece shows clash marks between Liberty and the rim, through star 13, and into the field in front of Liberty. The reverse die is virtually shattered, and displays myriad die breaks through AMERICA, the wreath, and the eagle's right wing into the star area.
