Description

Problem Free 1795 Ten Dollar, VF30 PCGS

1795 $10 13 Leaves VF30 PCGS. Breen-6830, B. 2-A, Taraszka-2, R.4. The initial year of Ten Dollar gold or Eagle production, from a mintage of 5,583 coins that included both the 9 Leaves and 13 Leaves reverse design. The Small Eagle type continued through 1797 when it was phased out in favor of the far more obtainable Heraldic Eagle motif. Survivors of this issue, while the most "common" Eagles of the Capped Bust Right, Small Eagle type, are difficult to obtain in problem-free condition. The original, high-end VF specimen offered here features mustard-gold color, which takes on a slightly deeper shade on the lower right reverse. The nicely centered design elements retain considerable detail. Most of the border dentilation shows, except along the upper right on the obverse, and the lower right on the reverse. The surfaces are remarkably clean for a heavy, circulated coin of this type, displaying just a few unobtrusive, inconsequential abrasions. An excellent candidate for an early U.S. type set.(#8551) (Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25ZU, PCGS# 8551)
