1797 $10 Small Eagle MS61 NGC. Breen-6833, B. 1-A, ...
Condition Census 1797 Ten Dollar1797 $10 Small Eagle MS61 NGC. Breen-6833, B. 1-A, Taraszka-7, R.5. The final issue of the Small Eagle type and the rarest of the three dates, with greater production given to the Heraldic Eagle design that was introduced this year. As Akers points out, only the 1798/7 7x6 Stars had fewer auction appearances.
The obverse of this Condition Census example is well detailed on all but the upper hair curls and, on the reverse, normal softness also shows on the head of the eagle and the feathers in the center of the eagle's breast. A die crack extends out from the border just below star 16. The semi-reflective surfaces are a bright green-gold overall with a subtle accent of reddish patina around the peripheries. Mild scuffiness in the fields is the primary grade-limiting factor and there are two shallow cuts below the eagle's right (facing) wing. Population: 1 in 61, 1 finer (4/03).
