1798/7 $10 9x4 STARS
Infrequently Offered 1798/7 9x4 Stars Eagle, About Uncirculated Preservation1798/7 $10 9x4 Stars AU53 NGC. B. 1-A, R.6. The Mint's delivery of 1798-dated Eagles was divided between 900 9x4 Stars examples and 842 7x6 Stars coins. Despite the similarity in mintages, the latter variety is rarer in all grades, being rated a High R.6 by Breen in his 1967 book on early Eagles. Of course, the 9x4 Stars representative that we are offering here is anything but common, and this variety is more difficult to locate than most issues of this Capped Bust Right type save for the 1797 Small Eagle. An aesthetically pleasing, green-gold specimen, both sides display a well centered strike with bold definition in virtually all areas. The surfaces are somewhat scuffy from circulation, but considerable satin luster adheres to most features. A definite highlight of the early Eagles in this sale.
