1799 $10 Large Stars Obverse MS62 PCGS....
Sharp 1799 BD-10 Eagle, Large Stars, MS621799 $10 Large Stars Obverse MS62 PCGS. Breen-6841, Taraszka-22, BD-10, R.3. The Large Stars Obverse is here paired with a reverse where a leaf tip meets the I in AMERICA at its lower right corner, and the lowest berry is under the right foot of the last A in AMERICA. Ten different die varieties are known for the 1799 ten dollar gold, including eight pairings for the Small Stars Obverse, only two for the Large Stars Obverse. The BD-10 is by far the more available of the two, as the BD-9 Large Stars gains a Bass-Dannreuther ranking of High R.6, or only 14-18 known. With the BD-10, the estimated 300-400 pieces known mean that occasionally nice Mint State examples such as the present piece appear on the market. This piece is sharply struck, with deep orange-gold color and bright semiprooflike fields. Although a few light abrasions account for the grade, none is worthy of singular mention. For all Large Stars coins, Population: 32 in 62, 63 finer (8/09).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2623, PCGS# 8562)
