Description:
1800 Ten Dollar, AU58
Extremely Late Obverse State
1800 $10 AU58 NGC. BD-1, High R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c (or d? extremely late)/d. The surfaces of this piece have a slight greenish cast to them and are faintly prooflike, showing good reflectivity and eye appeal. A few medium-sized abrasions are visible to the naked eye, while a loupe reveals more scattered, small abrasions. The obverse die state is slightly more advanced compared to the MS60 NGC piece in the present sale, showing a bold die crack through LIBERTY and stars 9-10 and a rim cud connecting five and a half dentils above star 11 (the cud connects three dentils on the MS60 NGC coin). The die crack left of L(IBERTY) connects with a perpendicular crack that runs down onto Liberty's cap, and it also appears a tad more advanced. As mentioned, there are scattered abrasions that nonetheless fail to defeat the eye appeal. A few small planchet adjustment marks are confined mostly to the obverse rims and in the central hair area. The reverse dentilation is weak from 7:30 to 9:30. Census: 25 in 58, 47 finer (3/13).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 2626, PCGS# 8563)
