Description:

1800 Capped Bust Right Eagle
BD-1, Only Variety for the Date
1800 $10 Genuine PCGS. Breen-6842, Taraszka-23, BD-1, High R.3. The PCGS number ending in .92 suggests Cleaning as the reason, or one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an Uncirculated specimen that has been cleaned on the obverse. The 1800 Capped Bust Right eagle claims a low mintage of 5,999 pieces, with a single variety known for the date. There is some doubt about the mintage figure, as die evidence indicates some examples were struck both before and after the 1801-dated BD-1 variety. John Dannreuther estimates a surviving population of 200-300 examples in all grades.
The present coin is an attractive example, despite the fact that the obverse shows signs of cleaning, especially in the right obverse field. The reverse remains original. Both sides exhibit sharply detailed devices, with lustrous, greenish-gold surfaces.
