Description

1801 Eagle, BD-2, Excellent for Type
Sharply Struck Mint State Example

1801 $10 MS61 NGC. BD-2, R.2. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. The BD-2 eagle die pairing of 1801 is the most available among the early eagles, making it a target for type collectors. This Mint State example is from the scarcer prime die state on both sides, showing no evidence of clashing or die lapping. The bright, semireflective fields show areas of mint frost intermingled. The strike is uniformly sharp throughout, the surfaces showing exceptionally strong detail on both the hair strands and the eagle's feathers above the shield. The color is pale green-gold with a significant complement of light reddish patina. Accounting for the grade, the obverse fields show numerous small- to medium-sized marks, yet the reverse is surprisingly clean.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564)

Learn about consigning with us

What I most appreciated was how thorough you were when we initially met, how you were conservative in your estimates, not trying to get me to consign by giving false expectations, and then for delivering above and beyond on your commitment to me of a wonderful marketing campaign and a first rate catalog and photos, all of which resulted in a final total price realized that was nicely higher than what you had told me to expect.
