Description

BD-2 1801 Eagle, MS62
Popular Type Coin

1801 $10 MS62 PCGS. BD-2, R.2. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/b, with enigmatic "spines" in Liberty's cap; they bear a superficial similarity to the lines of the reverse shield but do no match up with them. The 1801 eagle is the most accessible of its early type, thanks to the BD-2 die pair which is uncommon (R.2) overall. Mint State examples are scarce, however, with the population data inflated by resubmissions. This MS62 example is bright yellow-gold with a partial apricot overtone. Semireflective surfaces have an assortment of wispy abrasions, while the left obverse field has a few shallow digs.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564)
