Choice Mint State 1801 Capped Bust Eagle1801 $10 MS64 PCGS. Breen-6843, B. 2-B, Taraszka-25, R.3. A magnificent coin for the specialist who demands Choice quality and eye appeal for their collection. The surfaces are clean and pleasing to the eye, although we'll note some minor nicks to serve as identification markers. Two small scrapes reside in the field inside the third star a bit closer to Liberty's curl, another tick is found mid-field between Liberty and the sixth star point. Faint adjustment marks through LI of LIBERTY with others even fainter along the rim of the obverse. A couple of other ticks reside above and left of Liberty's ear, hidden somewhat by her copious curls. Satiny mint luster throughout, and the coin displays very even yellow-gold color. The obverse die has clashed with the reverse die with vertical lines from the shield on Liberty's cap but the reverse die shows no evidence of clashing. About as nice as this date is ever found, and despite being the commonest die variety the total known in this lofty grade remains paltry. NGC and PCGS have graded a combined 60 specimens this high, but importantly just two finer.(#8564) (Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 2627, PCGS# 8564)
