1803 $10 Extra Star AU50 PCGS....
The Famous 1803 Extra Star Eagle1803 $10 Extra Star AU50 PCGS. Breen-6845, Taraszka-30, BD-5, High R.4. The extra reverse star is located on the top surface of the right-most cloud, clearly visible on this piece. Although it is the second commonest variety of 1803, the extra star remained unnoticed until Harry Bass studied an example he purchased in 1966. John Dannreuther describes this unusual die characteristic as an intentional addition to the reverse die, but is unable to state how it occurred. This pleasing light yellow example has sharp details. Lightly cleaned with faint hairlines and a few minor obverse and reverse scratches are evident. (PCGS# 88565)
