Description:
MS64 1794 Half Dime, V-4, LM-4
Sharp First-Year Type Coin
1794 H10C MS64 NGC. V-4, LM-4, R.4. Although the V-4, LM-4 die pairing is slightly more available than the other three die varieties known for this first-year half dime issue. it is still very scarce in an absolute sense, while accounting for many of the high-grade pieces that occasionally come onto the marketplace. The date is low and distant from the hair curls and bust. Two points of star 1 touch the lowest two curls, but star 15 is separated from the neck tip (which is quite sharp) and presents a single point toward the neck. On the reverse there, a single leaf appears under the U and a single berry under the I, both in UNITED. The present near-Gem displays deep blue and gray patina over each side, which tends to subdue the underlying mint luster. The strike is sharp although incomplete, displaying weakness limited to the immediate centers of each side. Some curious circular marks appear in the area of the ear. Census: 20 in 64, 6 finer (11/11).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 22ZT, PCGS# 4250)

I received the catalog and was very impressed with its color illustrations, descriptions and attractive layout. (It has better production values than the New York houses.)
