Interesting and Scarce 1796/5 Half Dime1796/5 XF 40 PCGS. V.2, R.5. By far the scarcest variety of this first year type with an original combined output of only 10,230 pieces. Although not visible to the naked eye, the remnants of the underdigit are easily discernible under magnification. A lightly circulated piece, both the obverse and the reverse display even gray patination with overlying highlights of lavender, gold, russet, and olive hues. A lone abrasion behind Liberty's bust is the only detraction worthy of individual attention. Population: 3 in 40, 7 finer (6/99). (NGC ID# 22ZY, PCGS# 4255)
