Select Uncirculated 1797 15 Stars Half Dime1797 H10C 15 Stars MS63 PCGS. LM-1, V-2, R.3. The mintage of the 1797 half dime, 44,527 pieces, represents more than four times the production of the 1796 and is easily the more obtainable date of the two-year type. Only a single die pairing was used to strike the 15-star obverse variety. Like most known survivors, this important Mint State representative is weakly struck in the centers, being noticeably deficient on the Liberty's inner hair curls and the eagle's entire body. The peripheral devices display much stronger definition. Attractive gunmetal and golden toning dominates the obverse and is combined with delicate steel-blue accents on the reverse. Die clashing about the eagle is nearly expected of the issue. Outstanding quality for this sought-after 18th century type. Population: 6 in 63, 6 finer (11/06).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 22ZZ, PCGS# 4258)
