Description

Rare V-3, LM-3 1797 Half Dime, MS64

1797 H10C 16 Stars MS64 NGC. V-3, LM-3, R.5. The more elusive of two die pairs to share the 16 Stars obverse for the 1797 dime, this one distinguished by a wreath kept well away from the word STATES on the reverse. The Logan-McCloskey reference describes this variant as "very rare in Mint State," a profound understatement. The present example is wonderfully detailed for the issue with a degree of watery reflectivity to the fields. The margins show a degree of golden-brown patina that fades out into the silver-white that is dominant at the centers. Incredible visual appeal.(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 22ZZ, PCGS# 4259)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
