Description:
1797 H10C 16 Stars AU 55 PCGS. V-4, LM-2, R.4. According to Russell J. Logan and John W. McClosky in their book Federal Half Dimes: 1792-1837, this die marriage is very difficult to locate in Mint State--a fact that places considerable importance on this Choice About Uncirculated survivor. The central reverse is noticeably weak in striking detail, but both sides are remarkably free of post-production distractions for a circulated early silver coin. The surfaces are originally toned in charcoal-lavender and olive shades. A fleeting opportunity for the Draped Bust specialist. (NGC ID# 22ZZ, PCGS# 4259)
