Early Die State 1801 V-1 and 2, LM-2 Half Dime1801 H10C V-1 and 2, LM-2, R.4. Reiver state b. VF25 NGC. Light silvery-gray with traces of peripheral russet and blue. Attractive for the grade, with the strike generally even and the surfaces revealing no problems. There is minor striking weakness on the lower portion of the shield.
On this die state, both the obverse and reverse dies show strong evidence of clashing in the fields and over the date, and there is a faint die crack from the rim to the Y of LIBERTY, down the inside points of stars eight through eleven where the crack turns out to the rim through the upper points of star twelve. The die clashing is noted over the date from the clouds, and in the right obverse field where the eagle's wing and branch are present. On the reverse the die clashing consists of the outline of Liberty's bust and we suspect that clashing from her head weakened the shield.
