Description

1801 Half Dime, V-1, LM-2, R.4, VF20
Massive Retained Cud on Obverse

1801 H10C VF20 PCGS. V-1, LM-2, R.4. The 1 in the date is next to the curl, and the small 8 is closer to the dentils. On the reverse, the three top arrowheads are equally tall. This well-known obverse die state shows shelf-like die damage inside the Y and stars 8 through 12 that appears as an "inner rim" in that area, actually a massive retained cud. The LM-2 is still very scarce but the most available die pairing of the year. This pinkish-gray example shows only one mentionable mark, a long, curving line through the front of Liberty.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 2327, PCGS# 4267)
