Description

Desirable 1795 Small Eagle Five Dollar, About Uncirculated

1795 $5 Small Eagle AU 50 PCGS. B. 1-A, Miller-1, R.3. The first half eagle issue in United States history, the Philadelphia Mint produced 8,707 1795s between July 31 and September 16 of that year. As many of these coins were preserved as the first of their kind, this issue has long been recognized as the most available of its type. A planchet flaw (as struck) in the left obverse field is worthy of mention, but the surfaces are largely free of post-production distractions. Well centered, both sides display pleasing definition for the grade. The yellow-gold surfaces show moderate prooflike qualities. This is a popular issue and a coin that deserves a carefully considered bid. (NGC ID# 25ND, PCGS# 8066)
