Description:
1795 Small Eagle Five Dollar, BD-10, AU53
An Excellent Type Coin
1795 $5 Small Eagle AU53 PCGS. Breen-6415, BD-10, R.5. The following attribute the variety: 1 in date just free of hair, star 1 overlaps lower curl, star 10 has one point to cap, four berries are on wreath, two on each side, inside and out, inside right is lowest seen and over the bottom leaf. A crack extends from the stem end through the right foot of the last A in AMERICA to the rim. Dannreuther and Bass estimate the original mintage of BD-10 as 750 to 1,250 pieces, with a surviving population of 40-50 examples in all grades.
The yellow-gold surfaces on this AU53 coin display whispers of red and retain a generous amount of luster. This well defined specimen reveals just a handful of light circulation marks, and displays three fine parallel, vertical lines (possibly roller marks) located at the margin left of stars 1,2,3. The demand from type collectors makes the Small Eagle series a popular one.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25ND, PCGS# 8066)
