Description:
Brilliant 1800 BD-4 Half Eagle, MS62
1800 $5 MS62 PCGS. Breen-6439, BD-4, R.4. This variety is immediately recognized by the widely recut M in AMERICA, and this example represents Die State a with no evidence of clash marks, lapping, or die cracks on the reverse. Among five 1800 half eagle varieties, this die marriage is the third most common. In fact, BD-2, BD-4, and BD-5 are each considered R.3 or R.4, while BD-1 and BD-3 are both quite rare, R.7 and R.6, respectively. A lovely Mint State example, this piece exhibits satiny luster with reflective fields. Both sides have brilliant green-gold color with hints of orange toning. The PCGS population recorded here includes all varieties of 1800 half eagles, not just this single die combination. Population: 32 in 62, 18 finer (11/06).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25NW, PCGS# 8082)
