Mint State 1803/2 Half Eagle1803/2 $5 MS62 NGC. Breen-6441, B. 1-C, Miller-56, R.4. All 1803 half eagles are overdates, and these exist from two different obverse dies. The other overdate obverse always has a heavy die crack through the base of the date. The present example has the overpunched 2 centered directly beneath the 3. The other die has the digit 2 left of center below the 3. For many years it was believed that these two obverse dies were the same, either with or without the die crack. This example is a satiny Mint State coin with green-gold color and fully lustrous surfaces that are lightly abraded as expected. It is sharply struck and nicely centered.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25NY, PCGS# 8084)
