Description:
Near-Mint 1805 Half Eagle
Better BD-3 Die Marriage
1805 $5 AU58 PCGS. CAC. BD-3, High R.5. Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr. Collection. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/e without an advanced rim die break at 1 o'clock on the reverse. The Wide Date 1805 variety, scarcer than its Close Date counterpart (BD-1 and BD-2). The Bass-Dannreuther standard reference estimates between 35 and 45 B-3 examples are known. This is a canary-gold Borderline Uncirculated representative with bright luster throughout the peripheries and devices. Liberty's hair and cap display inconspicuous mint-made adjustment marks, and the fields exhibit wispy abrasions. A single small, thin dig near the right shield corner provides an identifier for the pedigree researcher. An affordable yet problem-free example of a difficult die pairing.
From The Harvey B. Jacobson, Jr. Collection.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25P4, PCGS# 8088)
