Description:
1806 Round Top 6 Half Eagle, BD-6
Select Example of This Popular Type Coin
1806 $5 Round Top 6, 7x6 Stars MS63 PCGS. CAC. BD-6, R.2. The sole use of the Knobbed (or Round Top) 6 obverse with 7x6 star arrangement on left and right, yet still more accessible than the five Pointed 6 half eagle die pairs for the same year. As a type coin the 1806 half eagle with Knobbed 6 is particularly prized, as the vast majority of Heraldic Eagle five dollar die pairs are scarce or rarer regardless of condition. This Select example has distinctly patinated orange-gold surfaces and generally strong interior detail save for weakness at the left side of the shield on the reverse. Scattered small abrasions do little to impede the rolling luster.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 25P5, PCGS# 8089)
