Desirable 1804 14 Stars Quarter Eagle, AU581804 $2 1/2 14 Star Reverse AU58 NGC. Breen-6119, BD-2, R.4. This is an impressive green-gold example with nearly full luster that is highlighted by splashes of attractive rose toning in the fields. The devices are all boldly defined as usual for this variety. Fine adjustment marks are seen along the lower left border of the obverse, creating weakness at the opposing point on the reverse. Dimes and quarter eagles dated 1804 are each known with both a 13 Stars reverse and a 14 Stars reverse. This blundered reverse die with 14 Stars was actually used to produce pieces in both denominations. Census: 23 in 58, 15 finer (1/07).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 25F8, PCGS# 7652)
