1807 Quarter Eagle, AU58
Final Capped Bust Right Issue, BD-1

1807 $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. BD-1, R.3. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/b. The only dies for the date. The Capped Bust Right design was discontinued after 1807, making this date an important one for type collectors. Approximately 250-350 examples survive today in all grades, making the 1807 a reasonably available issue for an early quarter eagle. Of course this was the only use of the obverse die, but the reverse had been used in 1805 to strike the only quarter eagle variety of that year and again in 1806 to strike both overdate varieties of that date.

The present coin is an attractive near-Mint specimen, with well-detailed design elements and lightly abraded antique-gold surfaces that retain considerable amounts of mint luster. No planchet adjustment marks are present. Population: 19 in 58, 28 finer (7/13).
