Description

1807 Quarter Eagle, BD-1, Unc Details
Eye-Appealing Early Gold Type

1807 $2 1/2 -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. Unc Details. BD-1, R.3. Only a single die pair was apparently used to strike the meager complement of 6,812 quarter eagles for the year 1807 -- most of which were probably dated 1807, given the Mint's propensity for using and reusing serviceable coinage dies whenever the need arose and the relative abundance of the 1807 issue versus the two known varieties for 1806. The yellow-gold surfaces on this piece may be a bit overbright but there are nonetheless commendable attributes on display. A few scattered contact marks are trivial; the arcing lathe marks visible on the lower bust of Liberty customarily appear on this issue. The strike through the centers is soft, on the eagle's neck, left (facing) wing and lower claws, but much eye appeal remains in spite of the minor distractions. As a nice example of the last-year Capped Bust Right quarter eagle, this piece should appeal to numerous collecting segments.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25FC, PCGS# 7656)
